Pediatric Chiropractic
Chiropractic care is not just for adults. In fact, more and more parents are seeing the many benefits of their children seeing a chiropractor every single day. Some of the benefits are improved sleep, improved behavior and attitude, and improved immune system function. Children encounter many physical stresses in their life that you may not realize. These stresses can cause your child’s spine to have issues in growth and development.

What is the Webster Technique?
The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment performed by doctors of chiropractic to restore nerve system function and balance pelvic muscles and ligaments. It is hypothesized that this pelvic balance may allow the baby to assume the best possible position for birth.
What if my medical doctor or obstetrician tells me not to see a chiropractor while I am pregnant?
Many obstetricians, pediatricians and family practitioners are beginning to see the benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy, but there still are a great number of medical doctors that have not accepted the facts. For every medical doctor who tells you chiropractic care is not recommended during pregnancy, you'll find a handful who will tell you it's perfectly safe and beneficial. The decision is up to you.
What is a subluxation?
Your spine is made up of small bones called vertebrae that stack on top of each other. Between each bone is a joint. Subluxations are misalignments of these spinal bones resulting in decreased movement of those spinal joints, which leads to inflammation and nerve malfunction. Think of the game Jenga. When the blocks are all stacked evenly on top of each other at the beginning of the game, the tower stands strong. However, as soon as you start to push the blocks one way or another, it becomes unstable and may start to sway. The blocks (or bones) that are pushed to one side or the other create areas of weakness, stress and tension on the spine and the delicate nervous system the bones are protecting. When a pregnant woman has spinal imbalances, the nervous system (i.e. the body's control center) cannot work at its highest possible level. When this happens the body tries to alert us of this by causing symptoms.
How do subluxations (spinal imbalances) occur?
Any major or even minor spinal trauma, prolonged stress or strain can cause the vertebrae or pelvic bones to become misaligned, resulting in a subluxation. During pregnancy, spinal imbalances are common due to the addition of 25-35 pounds or more, change in sleeping position and change in center of gravity.
What is the nervous system?
Your nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord and trillions of nerves that branch off to give power to the entire human body! It is literally your body's power source. In fact, the nervous system is the first system that develops in the womb so it can provide the information needed for the baby's body to grow. The bones of your skull and spinal column (vertebrae) protect your nervous system. Since the delicate nervous system is so important to our body, stresses on it can cause a person to experience a variety of symptoms.
Can women who are pregnant receive chiropractic care?
Definitely! In fact, women who receive chiropractic care while pregnant enjoy the many benefits which include:
• relief and prevention of common discomforts during pregnancy
• restoration of a state of balance in your pelvis which creates an environment for an easier, quicker, safer delivery
• reduced interference to the nervous system which allows your body to function at its maximum potential
Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
Yes! There are no known contraindications to chiropractic care during pregnancy. Choosing a doctor of chiropractic who specializes in pregnancy chiropractic is recommended. Dr. Maranda Wyatt has attained an advanced certification in chiropractic pediatrics and pregnancy. (C.A.C.C.P.)
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
Chiropractors perform a thorough examination and several neurological tests to determine the presence of specific subluxations or imbalances in the spine. Chiropractic care for pregnant women consists of a series of gentle, specific techniques used to correct spinal imbalances in the body. This removes nerve interference and allows the body to improve its function, resulting in a better expression of health.
Common Discomforts
A large percentage of women experience discomfort at some point during their pregnancy. This is most often due to the rapid growth of the baby and changes the mother's body is required to make as a result of this growth. However, common discomforts should not be considered "normal" and a pregnant woman should not be expected to "just deal with them."
Many of the common discomforts in pregnancy can be addressed using simple, painless and non-invasive modalities.
- Nausea and Vomiting
- Heart Burn
- Back Pain
- Hip Pain
- Sciatica
- Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction
- Breech
- Bed Rest
After the birth of my daughter, I had headaches from posture changes that I saw Dr. Chad for. 10 months later I became pregnant with my son and continued prenatal chiropractic care. Drs. Chad and Maranda and staff have always been extremely welcoming, and eager to answer any questions I may have. They provided me with adequate adjustments, vitamin supplementations and exercises to help me through my pregnancy and labor. My daughter’s birth was a c-section due to failed induction without chiropractic care. My son’s birth was a 10 hour unmedicated labor! I truly believe the care I received prenatally helped aid in the positioning of my son. My advice for someone in a similar situation is to seek out chiropractic care through your pregnancy. It really makes a world of difference!
